SITE DESCRIPTION

Sadly Cancelled

Sadly, following discussions with our incredibly supportive landowner, who has tried his hardest to prepare the field, we have been forced to make the very difficult decision to cancel this year's Bogie Meet. We know this will cause a lot of disappointment, but the safety and well-being of our campers, volunteers and stall holders must come first. We will be issuing refunds in due course. We’re looking into how to bulk refund to all parties we will update asap.

Looking for an exciting and unique camping experience? Look no further than The Bogie Race! This thrilling event features custom-built, traditional bogies hurtling down a field, with men and women competing for the top prize. You'll be on the edge of your seat as you watch the action unfold and cheer on your favorite racers. We operate a virtual telephone number system to protect our steward's private number. This is why our steward's numbers look like landline numbers. Calling this number before the site is open could mean you are connected to the wrong steward at a different site.

BOGIE CONSTRUCTION

The construction can be made from wood and or metal but adopting the traditional idea of bogie building, namely a form of transport made in the backyard using anything you can lay your hands on, some screws, nails, a piece of rope and 4 wheels.  It is up to the individual to develop the construction but seriously, we are looking for traditional design with few mod cons and not an F1 model.

Basics

It should be designed to carry one person.

It should be man powered, mechanical propulsion shall not be allowed.

It shall have a driver's seat.

It shall have a number plate measuring 75mm x 75mm (3” x 3”) fixed to the front of the bogie in a prominent position.

Wheels

It shall have 4 wheels preferably 1 at each corner, Wheels do not necessarily have to be the same size all round. There is no restriction on the type of tyre to be used.

Please make sure your wheels are designed to take lateral force, wheels such as push bike wheels often buckle on bends and can lead to accidents and injury.

Maximum dimensions

Overall length 1525mm (5’0”)

Overall width 915mm (3’0”)

Minimum ground clearance 50mm (0’2”)

Overall diameter of wheels 650mm (2’2”)
